Here's a suggestion from someone who has gone through this process - repeatedly.
If you are planning to apply, there are two ways you can do this in the family class:
- sponsorship of a spouse
- sponsorship of a conjugal partner
Word of advice...if you sponsor as conjugal partner, DO NOT submit any information to suggest that you are involved in any romantic way. CIC will essentially turn you down, assuming that you are engaged. You can not apply for immigration sponsorship and be approved as a fiance.
If you sponsor as a spouse, you can do so while he is still a student. I don't recall having to provide proof that you would be able to support him financially - it's different for spousal applications than other family class applications. But you can do an application from within Canada - that's the one that you would send to Vegreville, AB as opposed to Mississauga, ON.
