Well, it's been quite while since I was in school, but what I used to do was do an "outline" of each chapter -- and that way I touched on the most IMPORTANT parts of the chapters. I didn't bother with the boring crap -- just the main points of the chapters. I figured that's what the tests were going to be about anyway, and the majority of the time I was right.

So outlining the chapters worked really well for me, and it cut down on the study time too. Not only that but writing stuff down helped me remember things.
