I'm sorry you feel this way. Sometime I wish people were more aware about depression. I think too many people correlate depression with feeling sad and it is not quite true. I mean one of the symptoms of depression is immense sadness, but on the other hand, when people are sad it doesn't mean they have depression. I think a lot of people don't get that. When you have depression, you don't need a reason to feel sad. The illness itself is its own source of heartache and inner turmoil.
For me when I start getting depressed, I just feel immense sadness. After that comes hopelessness and my self esteem starts to tank. Doing things I enjoy doesn't, feel good. I do the things I know I used to like and I feel nothing from it. It makes it that much worse. I would try to explain to your family what is it like for you.
When they say things like "Just get over it" and "Everyone has it tough". Tell them those comments are not helpful. Yes some people go through trials and tribulations, but people that suffer from depression need a support system. Especially when things get really bad. When people feel bad for a long time and begin to lose hope, their decision making diminishes. We need people to support us and remind us people care.
Have you talked to your doctor or went into therapy to try and cope with this?
