When I read your post, the first thing that popped into my mind was "complex partial seizure disorder."

You don't actually have observable seizures with this disorder although it can eventually (but not necessarily) develop into seizures.

There is something in the way you described it that sounded very familiar to me as I have a family member who was diagnosed with this disorder.
