Lucifer was "proud" and no, he doesn't get to be proud since he's a creation of God's too. So, when he decided he was "a god"/as good as God then he and those who agreed with him got into a fight with God and guess what, they lost.

Our situation is a bit more complicated; we have 70+ years each, whatever, and are confronted with many situations, good ones, bad ones, etc. and can "learn" from our experiences and apologize when we "see the light." Adam and Eve "chose" to take that route when they ate of the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Before that, they were "innocent." It's a long struggle and "no one" knows how it's ultimately going to come out. God's betting on us and Satan's betting on himself. However, since Satan is a creation of God's, he's kind of gonna lose twice. But he wants to see how many of us he can take down with himself, how many he can deceive.

The fallen angels didn't /don't have anything to "compare" their experience to. Now, they have us to watch and we've got choices to make. God loves us and I don't believe if we say "it's too hard" and give up that he will cease loving us but, as the poem says, our "job" we were given to do won't get done and someone else will have to do our work. There may be someone tomorrow, next week, month or year or in 10 years that we're supposed to help, encourage, impact in some way and if we give up, we won't be here. I think of it a little like the Christmas movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart. http://www.filmsite.org/itsa.html
