I just don't think it is something that we can judge. I believe that God knows the state of a person's mind, and will be merciful. But then, I believe that the afterlife is not so cut and dry as just heaven and hell. I believe that there are many in between states, and that the choices we make can limit us from becoming what we could, even if a choice does not condemn us to endless punishment. Then, we don't know how much control a person has, and whether they could have decided otherwise. We do know our own state of mind, and we can make our own choices. We need to be responsible for ourselves and make the best decisions that we can.
