I have points of time where I forget who I am or what I have been doing...I have been diagnosed with dissociation before.

I also have been sexually abused in my late teens. I also have been verbally, emotionally, physically, and mentally abused by my mother most of my life. I have had encounters with men that have sexually assaulted me in my early 20s.

now in my late 20s I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder with schizotypal and Major Depression.

But my friend seems to think I have DID when I self harm or go into a state when I am not really the same person as if I was not self harming or crying fowl for emotional distress for that I hear voices and and have said "Laura is not here right now" on occasions. But the doctors have never figured out why I am hearing voices or do the things that I do.

I have also had psychotic epsoides when I swear someone else just takes over

so I wondered if you kindly help me out
Im sorry we cant tell you what is going on with you, whether you have DID or not....

what I can tell you is that here in america DID is...

having two or more special kinds of alters that take control many times, they have their own way of being, thinking and behaving. some places call these kind of alters categorical, the diagnostic criteria uses the term ...distinct.

having a special kind of memory problem that goes beyond the normal kinds of forgetfulness.

the problem cant be because of things like fantasy play, invisible friends, drugs, alcohol or other mental/physical health problems.

my suggestion...go according to what ever your own treatment providers say your diagnosis is...

that said with me one of the things that happens when I would self injure was similar to dissociation /switching alters...but in me it wsasnt..

when a person self injures the body releases a chemical called .. endorphines.. these endorphines chemical has the same symptoms as dissociation...makes a person feel distant, foggy headed and disconnected. some people have been known to "name" that feeling because it feels so different than how they normally are...my feelings / emotional state of mind caused by this release of endorphin's was called ...smokey...which was vastly different then having DID and alters because of DID.

there are many different medical and mental symptoms/problems that share the same symptoms that DID has..

suggestion...talk with your treatment providers they will explain to you whether this is an alter in you and why they have diagnosed you the way they did.
