Sorry, I missed this, and this may late, but I'm so sorry to hear this, it's so sad for him and his family, I'm sure.
It is never easy losing a loved one, I still miss my dad and always will, but as time passes one can function a little better as the years pass.
Since his passing, I've never been the same person I was before 9/11 and dad's passing in 2002.
Sadly, death changes a person, reality becomes more of a reality.
What you wrote here is so true.
