I had a friend who had that happen. She hadn't figured out how to work with the weight yet though.
Have you thought of swimming or something like Tony Little's "Gazelle" that is supposed to be kinder to your joints?
Have you discussed your weight gain and difficulty with it with your PDoc and/or therapist? They might have some ideas to make it easier.
