part of the many group therapy programs and classes I have taken over the years dealt with this issue. My most resent ones was one of my depression management classes, 2 parenting classes and one anger management classes and they had us do the same activiy. A total of 4 times.
for one week write down any negative self talk and then after writing that negative self talk write THREE positive self talk and affirmation statemnts.
The first time I did it I had about 6 pages of negative self talk and matching positive self talk and affirmation statements
the second time I did the activity I had 4 almost 5 pages.
the third time I had 2 pages
the forth time not even a whole page because it is now automatic for me to subsitiute positives when I do negative self talk that most of t he time I catch myself even as the thought is starting to form.
