Lamictal is an anti-convulsant and was approved for bipolar treatment maybe 12 years ago. It's usually used for BP that leans towards the depressive side (hypomania) not classic BP (BP I). If you are not BP I don't why it was prescribed to you.
Anti-psychotics are used for agitation which sounds like symptoms you suffer from on occasion. I'm not sure how explosive disorder is treated but there's a good chance that ritalin is a drug used for that. Ritalin is a stimulant but can have opposite effects on some people (calming effect and improvement of concentration) which is why it's used for ADD. I've used ritalin recently for constant severe agitation and it did decrease it very significantly. I was surprised. I'm agitated depressive (mixed manic) and haven't found any relief due to side effects, no response to meds, etc. in 25 yrs except for a short period on paxil.
