It may be sad, but it certainly
ain't a truth. Always? Hardly.
Many issues medication will only supress... medication will not teach you about interpersonal relationships, about coping with life's hurdles, will not help you set realistic and personalized goals...
The issues OP mentions... Anxiety? Exposure is the best. Medication alone will not do anything for it (and you are possibly setting yourself for addiction route). Lack of motivation? Eh, if there was a motivation in pill, deliver three wagons to my address, please. Sleep is the only thing where medication maybe the best number one choice (although there's always sleep hygiene... because most people have horrible sleep routines without even realizing it).
