Guess I never learned basic math. 5 of them, started 2.5 hours ago. Hubby had gotten up to check on noise of male in hallway and then all dogs went out. Then we are laying there and I hear what I think is a puppy but mom is in bed with him and I am sleeping on the other side of room with child. He keeps saying it's the child. I told him to look under the bed and sure enough was puppy number one. I made him go out with a flash light and make sure no one was dropped out there.
Well, I can tell you that I had my kids at home and I didn't go through that much laundry!!!!! Fourth pup had meconium in with him and it was a lot! Well, they are quite large, the size of ten week old kittens. There was more blood and water then we could keep mopping off the floor and putting towels and blankets under her. Alas she has finished the job and my college daughter is home for the weekend and is laying on the floor with them on the mat of old blankets and "indian" blankets. We woke her to come watch.
We have had baby sheep and goats and rabbits but never a domestic critter. What's funny is that I remembered everything from childhood watching animals be born. It wasn't traumatic now because I am in charge. I used to get a little squeemish with nature's way of dealing with placenta and umbilical cords but even that didn't bother me.
So for now happy, few thoughts of good homes for golden doodle babies. One has kinda blackish on his ears and I kept checking to see if he was oxygenated. Where did the black come from? I am so tired and must sleep as the child will be up and roaring to go. I am a grandmother!!!!! She had never made it to the vet appoint, spouse had rescheduled for today. Sat. She was in her crate when I came home so I knew something was up.
It is a miracle. Happens all of the time and too much but how incredible to see her be a great mom and see these tiny little aliens come into the world.
Most were born in the sac. A few times she was too tired at first to break it so I did and wiped the mouth and nose. Is this normal? Also, it is unreal how hard those sacs are to rip with one's fingers. I am so excited, does it show?
