I think its important to remember not all people are mean. Only some. Like the others said, anonymity makes some people feel brave enough to 'be themselves'. Thats good in some ways but not in others. Bullies are usually weak, cruel, unhappy people with a mixed up understanding about life. A lot of us have felt mixed up so I bet some of us can relate to them feeling miserable.
Im still learning how to cope with bullies myself. I think starting off any response with "Im sorry life has been so cruel to you that you think being mean is the proper way to interact with others" can set the groundwork for an honest talk if one can happen. I end it with "I hope someday you'll see the true beauty of life and want to share in it with the rest of us who are sometimes struggling just as hard as you do." I think that can help them see we are all human and having a hard time sometimes and maybe open the door to understanding and a connection to kindness for them.
Otherwise, its best to just walk away from them. jmho
