It seems like hell is a construct of a time long before "modern" religion. Hel in Norse mythology was a place where you came if you died a boring death, like from old age or illness. It was not a punishment for being immoral. Average people went here.

This somehow has been brought by tradition into modern religion, since there is no hell in say the Bible.

I'm not going to believe in something that has been distorted through time and also I do not believe non heroes go to a more boring afterlife.
