My mom hadn't had periods in years, then had a really heavy, long one out of the blue. She went to the doctor. It turned out she had endometrial cancer. They were able to treat it (hysterectomy and Chemo) and she's fine today.
Talk to your doctor and get checked out. It might be nothing. It could be really serious.
