I feel this battle between needing social contact yet prefering to be alone. I'd rather stick my head in a book instead of risking to be judged and depending on people who can't meet my emotional needs.

I know what you mean about needing your time alone. It's like we have such a hard time dealing with our lives/families/relationships that we need to re-charge our batteries. Without that break, it can drive you up a wall.
