For volunteering with a psych/socy major, I would imagine working with people :-) What about psych or socy interests you though? Volunteer in those areas?

I have a Sociology degree and was a founding officer for my local Friends of the Library group (sociology being about "groups" :-) and/or with a psych major you could go a zillion different ways including volunteering with the local animal shelter (Pavlov's dogs :-) whatever interests you.

If you have never worked before, which I assume as you don't have a resume, then I would get a job locally at a fast food or other service job that does not require a resume. Have you read Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, by Barbara Ehrenreich? It would be great to read and then "try it out" as your own little study and then you could maybe write a paper/use it in classes or even work it into your resume.
