Hello CharactorAssassin:
Does your psych have a nurse or assistant? Call them. My psych would never return a phone call either. And I'm not sure my message would get forwarded to his assistant. OTOH, if I call his assistant, she will return my call.
As an alternative, call his office & tell them you need an immediate appointment. Emphasize that it can't wait.
Most, if not all, mental health office voice mail messages say that if it is an emergency call 911. So, if you're in trouble call 911 or whatever the emergency # is in your location.
Call a suicide hotline. These hotlines are staffed by people who have experience working with people in crisis. The phone # for the National Suicide Lifeline in the U.S. is: 1 (800) 273-TALK (8255). Write this # down & post it where it is easy to find.
Or, if you are in danger, go to the nearest hospital emergency room. Have a friend or neighbor drive you or call a cab, or even an ambulance if it is really a crisis.
Lastly, do you have a therapist? If not try to find one. All most psychiatrists do is prescribe med's & monitor your progress on them. If you're suicidal every day, you NEED therapy too. Also, if you're in trouble, this person may be easier to reach than your psychiatrist.
Finally, do you have friends or neighbors you could recruit to come & sit with you if you're feeling particularly bad? If you can, try to develop a support group, individuals who know of your difficulties & who are willing to help. If there are not people around you who can take this on, perhaps by getting a therapist you can find a therapy group to join. Or just call any local mental health advocacy organization or non-profit service provider, or state or local mental health offices in your area. Chances are you'll find someone who knows of different therapy groups or drop-centers.
Best wishes!! Post another thread if none of this is helpful!
