Yes. The details get complicated, but I have at least two systemic conditions with blood markers, both of which exacerbate my depression. Unfortunately, these conditions were not discovered until years after the depression set in. This is one of the reasons I believe a full medical workup is important when a mental illness is diagnosed.
By all means, have your doctors recheck that test and explain all its implications to you and your mother.
