Hello. I am not a doctor but I work at a hospital and I've seen many doctors : ) First of all, have you been running a fever? I am going to assume you have not, that would be a good sign. Second, the "raspy" sound, I am assuming that has something more to do with your asthma than an infection. You either have a bacterial or viral infection and it may have irritated the asthma or possibly the weather (it is allergy season where I live) has caused some inflammation. Either way, I agree that you should see a doctor. If you did not have asthma I would say it is really up to you because those coughs that people have been getting lately really linger and treating the symptoms is mainly what I see people doing but asthma is a more difficult thing and it is important to remember what asthma is and how it is affecting you internally. I am guessing that your mother does not have insurance on you? If not, is there a minute clinic in a CVS or a clinic in a Walgreens anywhere near you? Those can sometimes be cheaper. You could also call around to urgent cares and primary care offices and tell them you are private pay and if they could give you a discount on the visit. They will often do that as it is up to them what to charge. I wish you the best, take care of yourself and don't ever feel bad for needing to see a doctor, especially when you don't have insurance, that is when too many people ignore their symptoms. God bless you!
