My boyfriend and I have argued about living in a "rape culture." Simply, I say we do and he says we don't. I've seen story after story of young athletes who rape a girl (often by drugging her or waiting until she's too drunk to consent), and the whole town backs him and calls the girl a slut.

Men expect women to cook, clean and give them sex. Even if the woman has a job outside the home (or even one inside, for those with home businesses). But they don't think they should have to share in those chores. The man can work an eight-or-more hour day and come home, and he expects to relax and have his wife wait on him. Never mind she's been working all day cleaning and taking care of the home (maybe the bills, too, depending who is expected to take care of the expenses), and if they have children, she doesn't get to rest, really. In the middle of the night, if the child cries, the mother is the one who usually goes to him/her. Mom works 24/7 almost.

I feel really sickened when I hear women who think women have this particular role they're supposed to live up to. Note that I'm not saying it's bad for a woman to be a traditional housewife if she wants to. I'm saying it's bad when she expects all women to do it. Employment out of the house can mean--if you're lucky--earning money doing what you love. So, some people think men should be able to go out and get the job, while the woman stays home and cleans and cooks. If she hates cleaning and cooking, she's just supposed to be miserable, and the man doesn't care. All some men care about is themselves.

I can go on and on with related stories (like mail-order brides and men who look for women from other countries who will be submissive and, in some cases, they can abuse).
