Jean thanks for sharing your experience. In my own personal experience I don't think I have ever been 'symptom-less'. Maybe that is because I have a lot of Mental Health issues and am on a lot of medication too.

Medication can only do so much and I know for me that being on certain meds for so long seems to reduce their efficacy. So, there always seems to be something, sometimes I can handle those symptoms other times I am totally debilitated.

Everyone is different and it may depend on your health, your medication, circumstances and so forth. Be gentle on yourself, meds can only do so much and it can be a lot of trial and error too. Some of us may never be free of symptoms, however, sometimes may be easier to manage than others.
