I believe that usually people do have this much control should they choose it. Not just me - I think everyone does. I think it is the unusual situation where one could not have avoided it if one had done things properly. I certainly know where I went wrong in walking into the trap and I do know I could have avoided it with just a bit more alertness. And as long as I remain more alert, I am reasonably certain I will let that happen to me again. On this one, it is less the fault of the therapist in that she was doing what I think therapists do - manipulate clients. I had the responsibility not to let myself get manipulated in that way.
