The book that really helped me was called "The Self Esteem Workbook" by Glenn Schiraldi.
It is a great resource for developing overall self-esteem: it is action-based and requires you to think and apply the material. I liked this better than any other book I've read on the subject, including Branden's work.
Also, a new book that I picked up called "The Tools" by Phil Stutz is great for confidence in moments of uncertainty. He uses mental exercises to move you into confident action.
I would say to start with the workbook and work your way through it slowly. It really helps develop the underlying beliefs necessary for confidence and self-esteem while eradicating any negative distortions that may be holding you back.
