I think what that is called is being "passively sucidal", in that you don't want to take your own life, but you wish you would die somehow. For me, these thoughts definitely worsen as I sink into depression, and eventually end up being "actively suicidal" (with intent). If thoughts get worse or more frequent you may need to see someone sooner.
