Wading, I think it is a USA vs Europe thing. In USA aggravated has become to mean something in the lines of irritated, upset or annoyed. I assume it is because it sort of sounds like irritated or agitated.

Over here it means made worse. You can use it as an emotion, but then in a very informal way, as it really is a word of comparison. Like "My pneumonia was aggravated by the cold weather".
