It sounds like it might be a mix of the two, for this happened to me once and I was not able to talk for an entire two week.... but I still went to work after the infection/fever had subsided and I was no longer contagious to my co-workers - I could still perform all my regular task of running the office, I just could not answer the phones - lol.

....... Please make an appt with your GP for an exam and get some medicine if needed (and) remember that if you do indeed have laryngitis and cont' to talk YOU can damage your voice box in the long run.
