From what I have read on DID over the last ten years I have become to believe that.... Yes, people with Dissociative Identity Disorder can have close relatives who have also had similar experiences - I have personally read of two twin girls that both developed DID (years apart).

Exactly why some people develop dissociative disorders is not entirely understood, but most experts believe these disorders develop as a protection against remembering painful and/or traumatic life experiences, such as abuse, rape, war and natural disasters.

How common are dissociative disorders?
As a whole, Dissociative Disorders are uncommon, affecting an estimated 1 percent to 2 percent of the population.
These disorders affect females more often than males and most often begin whenever the abuse or traumatic event occurred.
