I have read about hyperventilation syndrome but I still find it hard to believe that the hyperventilation is responsible for the tingling on my hands that begins as soon as I am anxious and can occur immediately after being startled. The more anxious I get, however, the more the sensation stretches across my body, so maybe that is a result of the breathing.
But yes, I experience a numb face during a panic attack often. The first few times I was convinced I was having some absurd allergic reaction.
