I told my primary care doctor my symptoms and she said I had anxiety and put me on paxil. She just said anxiety on the medical papers, that's it.

I have the symptoms of all the anxiety disorders in the DSM, should I have been directed to a pdoc? Can a primary care doctor diagnosis anxiety disorders? I must have severe anxiety if the doctor put me on paxil after she spoke with the psychologist(I never say the psychologist. She talked with him)?
