Sometimes it can be best to just say 'one of those days' or something like that to kind of brush it off...

When I don't know what is upsetting me I start to think about...

What am I thinking about?

What in the external world? Am I thinking a lot about something that has happened? In the internal world? Am I aware of thoughts like 'I'm so stupid' or something like that?

What do I feel like doing? With respect to fantasy rather than actuality... Do I feel like punching someone / something, do I feel like crying?

If you can figure out what is triggering your emotion and what you feel like doing then sometimes what emotion it is becomes clear.

Sometimes environmental stuff can have an effect too. Lack of sleep / food etc etc...
