I took Topamax once for a pain condition. Did nothing for pain and made me exceptionally slow/stupid (as all anti-convulsants I've tried for pain do) but it was wonderful for losing weight. I had no appetite and lost weight for the couple of weeks I took it. Though the down-side of that was that I didn't enjoy food anymore -and I like my pleasures!
Did she say she didn't want to prescribe Topamax because it causes weight loss or was there some other reason? Because I would think that since you've gained so much on other meds it would be a win-win -maybe she thought it wouldn't be effective for you?
