It definitely made me feel very tired the next day, but it also did actually put me to sleep. I thought the after effects were way worse than Ambien is for me. That's why I like Sonata. It also has a short active life - the specs state that you only need to be able to devote about 4 hours of sleep once you take it (unlike Ambien which, I think, is 7 to 8) so I can even take Sonata if it's very late or if I wake up and can't get back to sleep. Sonata never leaves me feeling tired the next day, for me anyway. It also seems to work very quickly (20 minutes or so). I've just been taking it for so long (over two years) that it's not always effective at putting me to sleep. Even though, Sonata is still the drug that works best for me.

You might see if your doc will give you a sample of the Rozerem to try out - maybe it won't have that nasty hangover effect on you. I always ask for a sample first since I have such trouble with sleeping pills working for me - I don't like to commit the big bucks unless I know it's going to work. It's always worth a try.
