I don't understand why my staff would have such a hard time with me having a cell phone. I have a computer, and I act responsibly while using it...I'm very careful with stuff like paying my AOL bill and not knowingly downloading anything bad...I don't go on bad websites or go in chatrooms I can't deal with. Since AOL is paid thru our phone bill I pay more than my roommate and I do it without grousing about it...what's so different about a cell phone? They TRUSTED me to go out and get this computer BY MYSELF without any kind of counseling or having someone help out(Maybe because they knew I had experience with computers and they knew I'd get what I wanted/needed)what's so different with a cell phone? The bill maybe? It's not like I constantly call people or that I'd run up a tremendous bill...I just want people who HAVE to get in touch with me to be able to do so even if I'm not home which is a lot...I won't give my number to everyone, just my staff, my PACT team, my pharmacy and my MD. And sometimes I worry about something happening to me with no WORKING pay phone around(which happens quite a bit in some neighborhoods I have to go to because of vandalism)and no way to contact help and no good Samaritan/police around if I do get into trouble(for example if I was attacked or had a medical emergency)...some people around here seem like they don't care for others and that makes me wary, if something bad were to happen to me I don't know if I could trust anyone to get help, many in my neighborhood don't even speak English. I think my staff are concerned about the bill, but honestly, I want to feel safe when I go somewhere and I don't want to lose my independence or ability to get around and use public transit rather than paratransit since I'm not in a wheelchair or have issues with taking the bus..Sorry if this is rambling, but I don't get why my staff seem to not trust me(besides their being my SSDI payee). If I lose the independence I DO have and have worked hard to keep, I'd be depressed...
