I agree. It is one thing with expired cereals - those really do keep for much longer than the expiration date. Cream should be fresh.

At some point when I had no money I received food from our city's community center. The center got regular deliveries from local grocery stores: food that were officially past the expiration date but in reality still good.

That is how I know what should be fresh and what can be consumed years past the expiration date.
