Hyperbole and a Half

One of the things that stuck out for me is the author relates depression to having dead fish, then telling people that her fish are dead and people wont acknoledge her fish are dead and wants to help her find her fish.

This reminds me of the lack of feeling pleasure in activities. You tell people you are depressed, then they make suggestion that aren't particularly helpful, such as go see a movie or eat some ice cream and you will feel better. I think this is a cornerstone of depression is the lack of enjoyment of activities. The whole time you are doing X which you used to enjoy, you feel nothing good from it, which leads me to frustration and withdrawal from things.

Most people expect a reason to feel sad, but with depression there doesn't have to be, or a small event can be soul shattering and most people would just rebound from it. I find it very difficult to explain it to people, so I just pretend to be okay most of the time, but that is tremendously draining. I don't think I have ever been able to explain it to someone, who has never experienced depression. I just thought I would share. I can imagine there are people out there that have spouses that just don't get it, and depressed people get the "snap out of it" or "buck up soldier" treatment which isn't usually helpful.
Wow this is me in a nutshell. I found hyperbole and a half and think its brilliant. She has a new post too which is also amazing.
Thanks for sharing. Although not good that anyone feels this way it's good to have others on here who understand x
