My t doesn't go on extended vacations, but she has taken a week here and there especially in the months before she moved, she went to visit there quite a bit. We just rescheduled appointments around it, with the understanding that I could call if I needed to. She always say "I love the work. You can call me if you need to." I never did, not wanting to disturb her time away, but I wanted to more than once.
