I feel bad for her more so because she was a child actor pushed into Hollywood by her parents. She didn't start out with a goal to be a great famous actress. She was good at what she did, she hung out with the Hollywood crowd when she was a teen (like any kid in that situation would do), she partied but didn't become a full-blown addict or alcoholic and then she decided that she wanted to pursue a career in movies. The paparazzi followed her since she was young and made her life miserable. Her situation is much different than Tom Sizemore's, Chris Farley's, Andy ****'s, Charlie Sheen's, etc.
