Because it's not just the herbs... just like it's not just the pills. If you count on them alone to save you, are are screwed.
I know for me they worked, not alone of course. Most stuff can chill you out, but will not work for hallucinations for example. And please don't tell me how my case is much milder... I am just saying valerian does work for anxiety/sleep issues. So does catnip and lemon balm or mint or lime tree blomsson or hops.
St John's Wort works for me but alas I get increased photosensitivity.
I get bach essences for the overall crazy (works if i don't forget to take em) and few brain supplements (lecitin, gingo and of course guarana and caffeine).
then there's moodfoods. Omega3, legumen, fish, spices like rosemary, oregano, thyme...
Not saying my way is the best... but it's nice to use the good things from nature. And it's not fair to say "herbs don't work". Maybe it's all you need to be brought down at a comfort level... and from there you can deal with yourself better.
and don!t get me started on "why it's not used massively". We just had one retarded law passed that disallows companies to state on herb packages what it's intented for unless there is a serious sciency-schmiency trial for it (fun fact? Nobody is interested to investigate herb you can buy for one euro per package. Herbalism is just not good business. I actually spend two weeks picking herbs as volunteer... no way you can make big business of it).
