I still do, and still cannot tolerate hot weather. Northern California is quite OK; Texas was NOT OK.
Speaking of hot weather, you can visit in summer. Summer is hot. The perfect time to visit Russia - specifically, Saint Petersburg (whose climate is described on Wikipedia as " Distinct moderating influence of the Baltic Sea cyclones result in warm, humid and short summers and
long, cold wet winters." where the bold part is way too clinical and objective to relate just how horrible it is - is in June during the season called White Nights = the season of the midnight sun. The weather is warm and the White Nights experience is unmatched by anything else. Especially when you see the bridges open up at night.

So that would be the way to go for you - both to get the most spectacular experience and to avoid the cold you loathe.
And, while, technically speaking, the White Nights season is not unique to Saint Petersburg because Saint Petersburg is not the only high latitude city, the cultural experience IS unique.
Wikipedia: "The white nights is the name given in areas of
high latitude to the weeks around the summer solstice in June during which sunsets are late, sunrises are early and darkness is never complete."
