Why should I tell you things that embarrass me?
I wore a white T-shirt to what passed for our graduation ceremony, I think, in eighth grade, and we all had our picture taken. All the other students were more formally dressed. I did not know any better, my mother did not know any better, and it was one more signal of my emotional stunting, which also meant I was an outcast in that society, shunned if possible by other students -- and adults too, I think.
