Anti psychotics are used as mood stabilizers. I was on Seroquel for a long time as a mood stabilizer. I'm still on it but because of various issues I'm in the process of changing medications.

Side effects don't happen to everyone. I know lots of people can take Abilify without problems, but it made me so sedated I could barely function.

I'd suggest talking to your pdoc and telling him or her: Can you please explain how an antipsychotic works as a mood stabilizer because I don't understand how it works and that worries me.

And also ask what the plan of action will be if you have side effects with Risperdal.
