I didn't use the bathroom in "public" while my father was overseas in the Navy so had lots of accidents. In second grade we had a bathroom in our classroom but I couldn't raise my hand to ask to go so went in my pants and the teacher had to literally "sniff" me out. My stepmother was not thrilled with cleaning dirty underwear all the time and once got a couple shovelfuls of dirt from the garden and put them in the bathtub with a couple inches of water and made me "bathe" in it.
