I had my liver enzymes come back abnormal. The doc said it could be liver damage (like cirrhosis--I used to be a heavy drinker so I was scared about that) or anemia. She had me wait a week during which I was to drink no alcohol or take any ibuprofin. When the results came back from the 2nd test it said my liver enzymes were fine, but I had pernicious anemia--which, if untreated, can cause depression, fatigue, vertigo (I had that, too) & eventually insanity & death (thus the term pernicious which means deadly). My husband said it was too late for me as far as the insanity went, I'm there!

But it is easily treated. I was started on monthly B-12 shots & now, through research, they've found that high doses of B-12 orally will get your levels up. I get tested periodically to make sure the levels are good. It did help with the vertigo. As far as the depression & fatigue, etc., it's hard to tell cuz I'm being treated for bipolar as well.

So you might ask the doc if you should abstain from anything to make sure it doesn't affect the test results. I agree that if the doc thought it was really serious he/she would have set you up for a follow-up test sooner.--Suzy
