If you are good at reading body language, then you can determine the best approach. If not, diplomacy is the best policy, as I believe in minimizing the potential risks at work with stress. e.g. A romance at work that breaks down is a sort of gossip entertainment, so much so that fees should be paid to those involved as subjects of such gossip.
