I think you were played. She pulled in what kind of car? Did it look newer? Somehow she was almost out of gas and gone to several charities and other places to get help with gas? Where she could have just gone to the hospital. She also traveled to another state and drove around a walmart instead of going to the hospital. Did you see her gas gauge? Was it almost empty?
The least I would have done was gone into walmart and have her purchase something, or at least try to with her credit card. Also I would have checked her gas gauge.
Not sure for you but if $20 is not a lot to lose than be glad that is all you lost.
