Does anyone know how to edit areas of brightness or overexposure?

So far, I have tried adjusting brightness/contrast, levels, curves, and exposure. None have given me a satisfactory result. Copying and pasting (from other parts of the photo) to cover the bright spot did not work, either. I even tried selecting the area and darkening it. I did manage to get some improvement with the patch tool, but the area is still too bright.

What else can I do? Suggestions?
