It is funny, in a way, but I Know when I was growing up fewer houses were all clean and sparkle and coordinated than I see today --- I loved the early Woody Allen movies for the fact that the plates didn't all match, nor did the furniture, and things are just lying about...it seemed more real to me. I grew up in one of the few "spotless" houses in my neighborhood, and always felt more comfortable in the others. What looks nice and clean, I learned, is not always so---it is just the facade. Clean and comfy, not too much, is nice, but boy, I find it hard to maintain just the basics...and I have learned to feel embarrassed about myself etc...
