Hi confused,
I'm so sorry you are having a rough time of it. Whenever I went to the psychiatrist, my t went with me. I'm kind of a scaredy cat and so T went with me as support and so if I checked out, I would still get the information I needed. The only thing the psychiatrist asked before we went in was was a question directed at me as to whether or not I would like my T with me, to which I nodded my head... um scaredy cat... lol.
I so understand how uncomfortable you must have felt going by yourself to someone who focused on you. It's different going into a crowd of people who don't know you from George, but going to an appointment where the focus is on you, whew, I'm usually gone for the count and then am left wondering what was said. For me, it's scary as well as frustrating.
I think it's probably normal for psychiatrists to talk to clients without the therapist, but as long as your therapist is willing, I think it's fine for your therapist to go if that is what you need. I would say to talk to your therapist and let her know how you felt and just ask. My T offered because she knew how much I fear people, but if T doesn't offer next time, ask her if she would be willing.
Good luck to you. I'm glad you were at least able to get what you needed with the medication.
